Dynamo Shinnik picked up their second win during the 2012 Junior Club World Cup with a 3-1 decision against the Waterloo Black Hawks at Omsk Arena in Russia Monday afternoon.
Dynamo claimed the lead late in the opening period when a blocked shot caromed to defenseman Arseniy Nevzorov, who fired the puck under the crossbar from the left wing circle. Kyle Schmidt had an opportunity to tie the game minutes later, but his tip sailed wide of the net. Instead, the Belarusians made the score 2-0 at 18:30 as Maxim Parfeyevets flipped in a rebound from the top of the crease.
A turnover by Dynamo goalie Jan Shelepney allowed Waterloo to draw closer in the second period. The failed clearing attempt from behind the net gave the puck directly to Justin Kloos with an open net. With defenders scrambling toward the goalmouth, Kloos put in a low shot at 8:35.
The Hawks appeared to tie the score during a power play 17 seconds into the third period. Taylor Cammarata, tangled and falling to the ice with a Dynamo defenseman, knocked the puck in, but the goal was disallowed because the puck was ruled to have been kicked into the net. Just over five minutes later, the score swung the other way as Dzmitry Ambrazheichk fed Roman Kolenchukov for a two-on-one conversion. The Hawks were unable to cut into the differential despite two power plays before the end of regulation.
Both the Black Hawks and Dynamo entered Monday’s game with one win in pool play. Following an off-day tomorrow, Waterloo returns to the ice Wednesday versus Norway’s National Junior Team, with a 3AM Central Time faceoff.
