Orientation Camp Recap

By Ryan Papa

This past weekend we had our Orientation Camp…the camp was a lot of fun.

During the weekend there were several activities we did as a team to help bring us closer together and start to bond.  These activities consisted of a scavenger hunt in downtown Waterloo, a tour of the John Deere Foundry, the Fan Fest at Young Arena, and a game and practice every day.  All these activities were so much fun and a great way to kick off the year.

My favorite part of camp was the Fan Fest at Young Arena.  It included about four to five hours of non-stop entertainment for our fans, including a tour of our locker room, a full USHL game where the players all wore the jerseys we will be wearing in Russia, a shootout picked by two fans who won chuck-a-puck, and lastly, about an hour of skating where the fans came out and could skate with Black Hawks.

While this was a lot of fun and an early start to the season for some of our fans, it was also was a fundraiser for our trip to Russia.  For the duration of the camp all players stayed in the Ramada in downtown Waterloo.  Every player had one roommate; most did not know theirs, myself included at first.  But throughout the camp, we became close due to spending so much time together and all of the activities we all participated in.  Overall the camp was a great experience and a lot of fun.
