Pictures from Tuesday in Moscow – Part Two

By Tim Harwood
During the late afternoon and evening, the Black Hawks had the opportunity to learn a little more about the country they are visiting.
Josh Nenadal shows off a Russian soccer scarf from a street vendor.
Trainer Todd Klein gets into the spirit, sporting a stylish hat.
Ian McCoshen takes time to look over some Russian nesting dolls.
Now for the educational part of the tour.  As players look on, a local tour guide tells the team about Novodevichy (or New Maidens) Convent.
A United Nations’ UNESCO Heritage Site, Novodevichy Convent has stood for hundreds of years.  In its early days, it was not only a religious center, but also protected those inside from warring armies.  Today it is a museum.
Stepping off the bus just outside Red Square, the team heads for a better look at the Cathedral of the Intercession, better known as St. Basil’s Cathedral.  It was built during the reign of Ivan the Terrible.
To the left stand the imposing walls of the Kremlin.  Not simply a single building, the Kremlin is an entire complex at the nucleus of city, from which the rest of Moscow has expanded.
In the other direction is the Moscow River.  In the distance stands one of the seven Stalin Sisters, seven nearly identical buildings constructed during the Communist era at different points throughout the city.  This building is currently used as an apartment complex.  Others are hotels.  One is the centerpiece of Moscow University.
Taylor Cammarata and other Black Hawks find a good spot to take some pictures.
Here’s what some of them were looking at.
Behind St. Basil’s is Lenin’s Tomb.
Farther into Red Square there are many additional cathedrals and impressive buildings.  Ryan Papa stands in front of the State Historical Museum.
Moving back to the bus, the team stops for one last picture all together.

  2. Thanks for the awesome pictures. As a seminary student I love to see all the cathedrals! I saw the exhibition game highlights vs. Red Army. Some nice backdoor goals. Keep up the awesome play on the ice.
